The Half Shell started out as a very small place with a long bar and 8 tables. It was a fun little place to “hangout” where you could get oysters, shrimp, hamburgers, hot dogs, and what ever else we felt like cooking that day. And really cold beer.
All the cooking was done right behind the bar so cooks, the server and customers were all in close proximity. The exhaust system was not the best so when you went back to work after lunch, everyone knew you ate at the Half Shell. Some regulars still talk about the “old place”.
On November, 1st 1996 we moved to the new place. We also moved over 1000 dollar bills that customers had stapled to the walls. That has continued through the years. If you come in and can’t find your dollar, it was donated to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Thank you!
On November, 1st 2007, we opened what we call “The Other Half” a smoking bar that gave us a little more room for live entertainment.
We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support.
